The National Testing Agency (NTA) has been the nodal agency for conducting all India competitive exams, including NEET (UG), since 2019. Before the NTA’s establishment, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) conducted NEET from 2013 to 2018.
The introduction of NEET has faced opposition, particularly from Tamil Nadu. Major political parties in the state, including the AIADMK and the ruling DMK, have expressed resistance to the test on various grounds. Despite this, states prepare their own merit lists based on NEET-UG results. NEET offers a total of 66,000 seats, which are allocated accordingly.
